Palm Sunday, April 13, 9:30 & 11 a.m. services - We will begin our Holy Week reflections by receiving palms to commemorate Jesus’ triumphant arrival into Jerusalem.
Taizé Prayer Service Monday, April 14, 7 p.m. - Although not part of our traditional Holy Week schedule, this quiet, contemplative service of prayer, music and meditation is a great addition to this solemn, holy week of reflection leading up to Easter. The informal service is held in the beautifully candlelit narthex.
Maundy Thursday, April 17, 7 p.m. - Our Seder meal will be a symbolic occasion commemorating the event when Jesus gathered his disciples together in the upper room to talk with them and to observe the ancient custom of the Passover meal. The congregation will gather in Fellowship Hall where we will sit at tables formed in the shape of a cross and share samples of foods symbolic of a typical Jewish Seder at the time of Jesus. Holy Communion will be part of the evening’s commemoration. Reservations will be required due to limited seating and to ensure adequate food will be prepared. Watch for sign-up information coming soon.
Good Friday, April 18, 7:30 p.m.- As the church gradually darkens during this service of shadows, we are reminded of the darkness of Jesus’ death before the joy of Easter. Before and after the service people will have an opportunity to walk the Labyrinth in Fellowship Hall (on loan from East Liberty Presbyterian Church). Also, in Fellowship Hall, there will be a meditation area where those who are interested may reflect on various artistic renderings of the crucifixion which will be placed around the area.
Easter Sunday, April 20 - We will welcome the risen Lord at 3 worship services:
6:15a.m. - Sunrise service will be celebrated with the members of Garden City United Methodist at Boyce Park slopes. It is truly inspirational to watch the sun rise as we celebrate the “son” rise. Dust off your summer “park chairs” (or you are welcome to stand for the service) and join us for this glorious service as we welcome the sun and the son! (Directions to Sunrise Service: Center Rd. to Old Frankstown Rd.; Turn right; Go a little more than 1/3 mile. The service will be held to the left, up on the hill with parking along the road.)
9:15 & 11 a.m. - Traditional Easter services of resurrection will be held in our sanctuary.
