Prayer Vigil at Monroeville U.M. Church
For General Conference on the Way Forward
February 23 – 26, 2019
Since 1972 The United Methodist Church has been confronted with and conflicted over questions about human sexuality. At our most recent General Conference in 2016, the delegates pushed the “pause” button and asked our bishops to find some way to guide us through this divisive matter. The bishops appointed a commission, known as The Commission on the Way Forward (COWF), to bring recommendations to a special General Conference set for February 23-26, 2019. That time has come.
Regardless of the outcome, the UMC will be a different church after 2019 and 2020. We need to be in prayer for God’s guidance in this “wilderness” time. We are asking for prayer during the General Conference through two different avenues:
¨Our Sanctuary will be open during the times listed below. We would like to have prayers lifted each day. So come, reflect, pray, light prayer candles in the MUM Sanctuary.
The sanctuary will be open on:
Saturday, February 23; Sunday, February 24; Monday, February 25; Tuesday, February 26 at 11 a.m.-noon (except Sunday); 2-3 p.m.; and 6-7 p.m.
If you can commit to praying at the church during one of these times, please sign up on the schedule on the Connections bulletin board (beside the parlor) so that we know that ALL of these times will be covered. You are welcome to come, even if you do not sign up as many of us can be in prayer during each time.
Devotional materials will be available in the sanctuary if you wish to use them.
¨If you cannot make the trip to the sanctuary, let’s make a commitment to pray for the church during these times from our home, school, offices…
